Hey Cowboys,
Happy Wednesday! A new round of DTC, retail, tech, and ecommerce news are coming your way today.
We’re kicking things off with the biggest stories, trends, and moves operators should have on their radar this week.
Today’s lineup 👇 and stories.
Today’s Squad: The TikTok Shop Generation

Three founders on building brands and agencies through creator content and social commerce, where the real GMV is actually being made.
Nate Lagos - Founder, Shootin’ Doubles
Tyler Brechbiel & Alex Rudolph - Co-Founders, TBAR Partners
A QVC product demo went massively viral on August 5 when wig entrepreneur Toni Brattin accidentally said "blow job" instead of "blowout" on air, spawning millions of views, a TMZ interview, a Jimmy Fallon bit, a Tonight Show appearance, and a reported sellout of the wig. The timing is what has social media spinning conspiracy theories: QVC Group completed its financial restructuring and emerged from Chapter 11 on August 6, one day after the clip exploded, with a turnaround strategy literally centered on live social shopping.
QVC filed for bankruptcy in April with around $6.6 billion of debt after years of declining TV viewership and cord-cutting crushed its traditional model.
The company exited Chapter 11 with debt slashed from $6.6 billion to $1.3 billion, handing creditors $1.3 billion of new debt and securing a $600 million credit facility from Strategic Value Partners and Oaktree Capital, while preferred shareholders were wiped out despite fighting the plan in court.
Common stock was approved to resume trading on Nasdaq under the ticker QVCG.
CEO David Rawlinson stepped down, with former 16-year QVC chief Mike George returning as interim CEO and board chair.
The reorganized company is explicitly betting on live social shopping, having already earned TikTok Shop Seller of the Year recognition for 2025.
Whether engineered or genuinely accidental, the sequence reads like a masterclass: viral clip on August 5, bankruptcy exit on August 6, trading debut days later, and millions of younger consumers suddenly talking about QVC at the exact moment its survival depends on winning social commerce.
Top Stories: Gummy Wars, New Olipop CEO, OpenAI Veteran Exits
Grüns Cuts Prices 17% Across Its Lineup - Grüns has permanently cut prices by 17% across its entire lineup, dropping subscriptions from $59.99 to $49.99 starting August 11. The supplement brand now ships more than 10 million gummies a day and has grown to over 100 employees since launching three years ago. The price cut comes shortly after AG1 launched its own gummy products and marks Grüns' first major pricing move under new owner Unilever.
Olipop Names New CEO - Olipop has appointed Christian Patiño Webb, former CEO of Electrolit, as its new chief executive. Co-founder Ben Goodwin, who has led the company since 2018, will become Executive Chairman and Head of Innovation. Patiño Webb previously helped scale Electrolit into a leading U.S. sports drink brand, while Olipop surpassed $400 million in FY24 sales and reached profitability in early 2024.
OpenAI Veteran Brad Lightcap Exits - OpenAI veteran Brad Lightcap is leaving the company after eight years to pursue a new venture. His departure follows a broader executive reshuffle that has also seen senior leaders including Fidji Simo, Bill Peebles, and Kevin Weil exit. The changes come as OpenAI completes a $7 billion employee tender offer, giving eligible workers a major opportunity to cash out shares.
Build a Better Affiliate Program with SATHI
Quick question for you. If someone asked how long it takes before an affiliate program starts paying for itself, would you know the answer?
Most brand operators don’t, and that’s exactly what our friends at SATHI are tackling on Aug 20. They’re hosting a live session with an affiliate consultant who’s built programs for ecommerce brands for over a decade. Her clients hit $10K a month in affiliate revenue in under 4 months, and on this call she’s walking through the exact playbook behind that number. Budget, timeline, roster size, the whole thing.
Stick around after and there’s a live Q&A, so you can bring your own program’s questions directly, plus every attendee walks away with a resource to keep going after the call ends.
